April 2010 | From a vision to reality – the Berlin Olympic Stadium

Where did the idea of a blue running track come from and how did this vision become reality, which is today already known as the ‘blue wonder’?

On August 16th, 2009 Usain Bolt ran his fairy-tale world record: 100m in 9:58 sec. – on a surface made from Melos granulate, in a stadium, which from the perspective of design, sets new standards: the Berlin Olympic Stadium. In the following film you will find out the interesting background from first-hand accounts. Stadium architect, Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Ernst, explains in an interview how the innovative stadium came into existence and why Melos granulate was the first choice. The interview is accompanied with a view behind the scenes of Melos’s research and development laboratory.
