December 2010 | Opening of the Paulus crèche in Melle - Granulated surface contributed by Melos

A new home for the „Ladybirds“

A great new venue has been opened in the town of Melle. It’s great because it has given parents the assurance that their children are safely and lovingly cared for. This fact was emphasised by Pastor Bernhard Julius in an address in which he referred to recent changes in society. As it was now common for both parents to work full-time, he said, facilities of this type were becoming increasingly important.

The „Paulus crèche“ welcomed numerous visitors to the colourful and creatively designed new home of the „Ladybird group“ on the occasion of its lively inauguration service and blessing, accompanied by music.

The event marked the end of an extremely stressful and financially challenging planning and construction period for the Paulus parish, even though the project has not quite reached its conclusion.

Safe play on granulated surface supplied by Melos

So what is the connection between a small crèche and a company that manufactures synthetic granules using vast machines? It all started with the desire to do something to benefit children, and there was a real opportunity to do so in this case – by donating fall protection tiles made of Melos granules for the playground of the Paulus crèche. Should a child take a tumble, the fall is cushioned by the granulated surface, preventing a hard impact and potentially severe injuries.

Natural rubber is converted into soft, elastic EPDM granules in the production process. In addition to fall protection tiles, Melos granules are also used in running tracks, synthetic turf systems and sports grounds to help top athletes fulfil their performance potential.

The playground is due to be completed in the spring of 2011. If the winter weather is very cold, the children should not be too upset at having to wait indoors in the warmth, but a degree of excitement and impatience is nevertheless inevitable. And for parents, too, the additional safety at the playground coupled with the loving care provided by staff should be further reason to leave their offspring at the Paulus crèche without a second thought.
