April 2009 | FC Bayern München staying at Klosterpforte in Marienfeld

Zoom

For years, FC Bayern München has been preparing for its away matches against Bielefeld at the Klosterpforte. The team always travels to Marienfeld the day before the match and the players, trainers and support personnel move into the exclusive quarters of Sporthotel 11, which was built especially for professional footballers and fulfils the top teams' every wish.

So, it is hardly surprising that almost all the Bundesliga teams stay at the Klosterpforte when they play against Arminia Bielefeld. It is also used as a training camp by top-ranking national and international teams, such as 1st FC Köln, which conducted an extra last-minute training session at Marienfeld in order to consolidate its forces afresh for the game against Hannover 96.

That is how hotel manager Reinhold Frie comes to be so familiar with top teams’ requirements and is able to offer such ideal conditions for professional footballers. Alongside two first-class natural turf pitches and one highly modern artificial turf pitch, the hotel also provides a Vital Centre and an independent Health Forum. A professional team of physiotherapists also offer individual attention and ensure an atmosphere of Mediterranean well-being.

FC Bayern München really appreciate that. At the end of a difficult season, the team was able to gain points in Bielefeld and regain some of its usual form after their setback in the Champions League and the defeat in Wolfsburg. After 64 minutes, Luca Toni rescued the FC Bayern München bench with a header that shot Arminia Bielefeld right through the heart. Although not a particularly brilliant play, it was enough.

And Reinhold Frie can chalk up this victory as a reservation for next year. So long as Arminia Bielefeld is not relegated.
