Cooperation between two local companies
Marienfeld, 27 March 2009 - For many years Hotel Klosterpforte in Marienfeld in East Westphalia has been well known among professional football players for its optimal accommodation and training facilities. That is why not only German league teams but national teams from all over the world are regular visitors. Now the four-star+ hotel has made a further leap forward: in close cooperation with the international specialist for sports surfacing, Melos GmbH in Melle, it has created an artificial turf training ground that is the only one of its kind in the world.
As the manager of the exclusive hotel and sport complex, Reinhold Frie, points out, Marienfeld is now an even more attractive location for top teams. “In 2006 we were already graded ‘very good’ by FIFA and the Portuguese Football Federation, and this new artificial turf sports field now enables us to offer training facilities that you won’t find in any other hotel.” He considers that these give players ideal prospects for successfully preparing for a match. “Those who stay with us can be sure: not only our rooms and our food are top quality, but you will be hard put to find better facilities when preparing for sporting events.”
What is so special about the new artificial pitch is something that has never been achieved elsewhere, a combination of materials and components that exhibit the properties of natural turf. The turf fibres possess optimized rebound behaviour and improved pile recovery from loading. A shock-absorbing base layer offers ideal force reduction figures for muscles and joints and prevents the excessive stresses that can lead to injuries or premature fatigue.
The unique elastic infill used here, which its manufacturer, Melos, has dubbed “Evolution Infill”, has further enhanced the natural properties of the artificial turf system. In combination with the turf fibres this material further improves its sporting properties, providing ideal support and cushioning for typical football manoeuvres such as tackling and rapid acceleration with sudden turns and glides.
One new feature is the natural ability to absorb moisture and subsequently release it to the environment. The infill also reflects sunlight and so reduces the heat absorbed by the system as a whole, which markedly improves the playing atmosphere in hot weather. The construction of this artificial turf system ensures unvarying playing characteristics and enables even intensively used pitches to be kept in play all year round.
