Arctic cable compounds for flexible applications

With its special insulation and sheathing compounds in the “Mecoline TP & Mecoline RDX” product portfolio, Melos is now proud to serve markets with high requirements in terms of low-temperature flexibility. These demands are particularly prevalent in regions with especially harsh climatic conditions, such as cold northern Russia.

Potential areas of application for these cables include ships, wind turbines, conduits and oil rigs. What’s more, their extraordinary flexibility means they are even suitable for use in robotics systems. The low brittleness temperature of the Mecoline TP & RDX products ensures low material embrittlement – even when used in environments with intense temperatures. And then there are the optimum values with regard to thermal expansion, cold impact and the cold bend test, which make this Mecoline product range the perfect choice for applications requiring flexibility at low temperatures.

A product that performs exceptionally well in this context is Mecoline S TP 1034 F, a thermoplastic sheathing compound with potential operating temperatures ranging from -75° to 105°C. This product is oil-resistant in accordance with UL 1277 (Oil Res I & II), and the MDH mixed into the compound creates an outstanding level of fire resistance. Customers have also been impressed with the excellent workability and flexibility of the resulting cables.
