Attending a Training Camp Like the Professionals

The first summer camp at the FLVW sports club sponsored by Melos was a great success.

From 13 to 17 August 2018, a holiday sports camp for children aged 10 to 15 was held at SportCentrum Kamen-Kaiserau. During this week, 27 girls and boys proved their talent in different athletics disciplines.

The children thought it was great to have an opportunity to train at the training camp of the professionals. The venue serves as the European Base Camp of the Canadian track and field athletes, and the German national men’s and women’s teams as well as the players from the German Handball Association train there regularly as well. Mighty impressive, of course!

During the one-week summer camp, age-appropriate training was offered involving 3 training sessions per day. The aspiring athletes were able to have a go at various disciplines from the areas of sprinting, jumping (long jump and pole vault) as well as throwing.  The focus throughout was having fun doing athletics.

The girls and boys trained with much enthusiasm and ambition and showed a great deal of talent. Many of the children also made new friends. The sport was complemented by little games and various leisure activities. Of course the youngsters were fed appropriate food containing plenty of vitamins. Melos gave each child a personalised sports top, a Melos drink bottle and a sports backpack.

Everybody is already looking forward to the next Athletics Summer Camp in 2019.
