New internal mixer for the production of Mecoline insulation and sheating compounds in Poland
Melos increases capacity and responds to rising demand with new machine
This is a significant step not only for Melos, but for the entire Sport Group:
In June 2024, Melos commissioned a new internal mixer for the production of Mecoline insulation and sheathing compounds at its subsidiary Unirubber in Poland. The compounds intended for production at this site are used in the areas of installation cables and fibre optics. This is Melos' response to the increasing demand for such compounds. At the same time, this step allows the company to react more flexibly to changes in the market.
The annual capacity of the machine is 4,000 to 4,500 tonnes. "Due to attractive pricing, customer interest is high, which means we can now respond more flexibly to customer requests thanks to the expanded annual capacity," reports Business Segment Manager Marcus Hohlweck.
The machine is equipped with tried-and-tested technology that has already proven its worth at the main plant in Melle. Melos is therefore also able to ensure the usual high quality of the compounds at Unirubber.
The start-up goes hand in hand with the internationalisation of the business; Mecoline compounds are in demand worldwide. Furthermore, the creation of new capacities in Poland also enables the further development of the production of Mecoline speciality compounds at the main plant in Melle. These include compounds for the rolling stock, green energy, defence, offshore and automotive sectors. Sales of these products are steadily increasing and show that Melos is excellently positioned for the future with a broad portfolio of cable compounds.
Business Segment Manager Marcus Hohlweck takes a positive view of the future: "In addition to our very broad portfolio, we have a 7-strong development team at our main plant in Melle to optimise compounds to meet the needs and wishes of our customers. Over the last few years, we have developed into a sought-after partner for customised cable compounds." This underlines Melos' determination to continue its growth course in the industrial compounding sector, which includes cable compounds.
