Laykold® teams up with Wilson® to recycle balls

Tennis balls have a short life. And where do they go?

In the USA alone, over 100 million balls end up in landfill every year. This is not an environmentally friendly or resource-saving solution which is why Laykold® is a partner of Wilson® Recycled Balls, a program which collects balls from clubs around the USA and recycles them. So far, the program has collected over 6 million balls.

To raise awareness of the issue Laykold® teamed up with the US Tennis Association and Wilson® to use recycled balls in the court surface at the Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati). The balls used had been collected from last years US Open and Western & Southern Open.

The Western & Southern Open, as an APT Masters 1000 event and WTA Premier 5 event, is one of the most prestigious tournaments, and this was the first time that a major tournament has used recycled balls in its court surface.

The result was impressive; the courts delivered elite playing performance as well as being a breakthrough for use of recycled balls.

Laykolds commitment to quality and the environment is unparalleled in the industry. Laykold® is the only grand slam surface made on three continents, in ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certified factories.
